Islam holds deep roots among these proud people who inhabit the Horn of Africa. Nearly 15 million in population, yet not a single mature church. Having experienced war for over 20 years, these people are desperate for peace. Christ is the one who brings light and life into dark places. Yet how will they ever know unless someone goes and shares this great news?
Your focus will be teaching intermediate to advanced English to those who are in process to resettle in an English-speaking country. From relationships formed within the school and in the neighbourhood, you will have many opportunities to share about your own life and faith. This may be over a cup of tea, a game of chess, a meal of camel meat and pasta, a pick-up game of soccer, getting henna or simply relaxing together in the living room. While the majority of your stay will be in an urban environment, you will also take side trips to the rural areas to see other ministry efforts. You will also spend time learning language and culture to help you have meaningful spiritual conversations with local people.
